About Us

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that transforms the lives of children and teens with physical deformities through reconstructive surgery and comprehensive medical care — all provided 100% free of charge.

Founded in 1991 and headquartered in San Diego, Fresh Start partners with Rady Children’s Hospital and leading volunteer surgeons across the country to provide life-changing care to underserved families. Each child receives personalized treatment plans that may include surgeries, laser treatments, dental and orthodontic care, speech therapy, and more — ensuring healing that goes far beyond a single procedure.

In addition to our core Surgery Weekend Program, Fresh Start proudly operates Unbranded for a Fresh Start, offering free tattoo removal, scar revision, and dermatological services to survivors of human trafficking, abuse, and gang affiliation, helping restore confidence and opportunity.

With a 100% donor-to-patient model, every dollar given directly supports medical care. Over 9,000+ patients have received treatment to date.
