LIBRARIAN (TEMPORARY/PART-TIME)
Description
The City of National City Library currently has vacancies for temporary, part-time librarians.
THE POSITION:Under direction, to plan, organize, and oversee services and programs to adults, teens, and children; perform professional library work; responsible for research services and provide effective access to the collections and perform related duties as required.
SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday, including Evenings; and Weekends
Schedule may vary; Up to 19 hours a week
Key Responsibilities- Provide reference and research services by email, telephone, mail, and in person.
- Select library materials and databases.
- Maintain and update library website.
- Instruct the public on using the catalog, self-check stations, library equipment, resources/databases, and online services.
- Evaluate, discard, and update library materials (print and electronic).
- Maintain print, non-print, local history/archival, and digital collections.
- Compile finding aids, reference guides, statistics and reports.
- Curate and conduct online/remote and in-person programs including tech and STEAM programs.
- Design and create flyers, promotional materials, and calendar of events.
- Promote work through exhibitions, presentations, talks, library tours/visits.
- Coordinate and lead digitization projects.
- Administer policy guidelines concerning public access and use of materials.
- Write and administer grants.
- Coordinate educational and public outreach programs. Represent the library at regional and multi-agency committees and professional meetings.
- Supervise and train volunteers.
- Participate in special projects, library strategic plan.
- Attend workshops, training, and meetings.
- Shelve materials.
Minimum Qualifications- A master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency and one year of paraprofessional library experience; OR,
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency, supplemented by a minimum of nine (9) semester units or twelve (12) quarter units of graduate library science coursework from an accredited college or university, AND two (2) years of paraprofessional library experience.
